The MJ Show #120 - Classic Albums - Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was Elton John's seventh studio album. It was released in 1973 and it has  been considered his best studio album to date. It has sold over 15 million copies.
The album has the very famous Marilyn Monroe tribute, "Candle in the Wind", as well as three successful singles: "Bennie and the Jets", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting".
The album was ranked #91 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time!

The album was a double album and featured 17 tracks in total. 18 if you consider that the first song is actually two songs together. Bernie Taupin, Elton John's long time song-writing collaborator wrote the lyrics in two and a half weeks, with Elton John composed most of the music in three days while staying at the Pink Flamingo Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.
Though Elton wanted to record the album in Jamaica, because of problems he faced there, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was recorded in two weeks at the Château d'Hérouville in France, where he had previously recorded Honky Château and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player.

The album went 7 times platinum in the US and platinum in UK. It also reached the #1 album on both the US and UK charts in 1973.

Today, I'm giving you a chance to listen to the ENTIRE album right here! Listening to albums has become such a lost joy. Most people just listen to the singles or the hit songs or the greatest hit cds...but you've really got to go back and listen to complete albums by fantastic artists like Elton John and so many others like him to realize, just WHY, they are such massive superstars right now and back in the day :)
