The MJ Show #122 - Iconic Dance Videos

Fat Boy Slim is coming to town...riding on his...well let me leave that rhyme right there because I can't see anything good coming out of that. :)
The fact however is that Fat Boy Slim IS coming to India. Whenever I think of Fat Boy Slim I instantly think of the incredible Christopher Walken and the mad dance he did in the song Weapon Of Choice by FBS (Oh yeah...I abbreviated the shit out of that name!)
Anyhow...that song got me to thinking about a whole lotta other songs. Songs that we saw on tv and then...whether we looked great doing the moves or looked totally loony...we did the steps and danced like the video in any case. :)
Don't tell me you didn't have a Macarena phase. Or that Ketchup band song. Gaah! Yes we may hate it in hind sight but these songs were iconic. They made the world dance...and so...today...they find a special spot on The MJ Show :)
Enjoy!

Fat Boy Slim - Weapon Of Choice

Fat Boy Slim - Praise You

OK Go - Here It Goes Again

The Village People - YMCA

Missy Elliott Feat. Ciara and Fatman Scoop - Lose Control

Soulja Boy Tell Em - Crank That

M C Hammer - You Can't Touch This

Eric Prydz - Call On Me

N Sync - Bye Bye Bye

Black Eyed Peas - Hey Mama

Lady Gaga - Bad Romance

Jennifer Lopez - I'm Glad

Los Del Rio - Macarena

Las Ketchup - Asereje

Sean Paul - Temperature

Beyonce - Single Ladies

Shakira - Hips Don't Lie

Britney Spears - I'm A Slave For You

Madonna - Vogue

Janet Jackson - Nasty

Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean

Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal

Michael Jackson - Thriller

I had to end with Michael Jackson...and specifically with Thriller. I can't think of a single person who has not seen that video and tried to copy at least some of the moves in it. :)
Bet you did too! Right? :)

So...did I miss any great song? Some song that you thought really belonged here? Let me know...in the comments here or on my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/mihirjoshipage

The MJ Show #121 - Pumped Up Kicks

Today's show is just about ONE song!
I'll tell you why.
Recently I was hanging out with some friends and I was shown this video:

It blew my mind in so many ways that I can't begin to describe it. The dancer in the video - Marquese Scott is unbelievable. It's difficult to imagine that someone can move like that isn't it? But this man does it.
So yeah...once my blown up mind returned to normalcy, the first thing that I thought was...what's that song?
And that search led me to a indie Amercian band called "Foster The People".
Pumped Up Kicks was the debut single by the band and it became their breakthrough hit. The single was released in 2010 and was one of the most popular songs in America in 2011.
Despite sounding like a fun uptempo song, the song is actually about a young man's homicidal thoughts about going on a killing spree. (Check out the lyrics below and you'll see what I mean.)
The song was written by the frontman of the band - Mark Foster. He wanted to write a song to bring about awareness about the issue of gun violence among the youth of America. I think it's a really awesome song...lyrically and musically.

Here are some interesting facts about the song:
The track received considerable attention after it was posted online in 2010 as a free download, and it helped the group garner a multi-album record deal with Columbia Records imprint Startime International before they had issued a commercial release. The song became both a crossover hit and a sleeper hit in 2011, as it received significant airplay on modern rock and contemporary hit radio stations. The song spent eight consecutive weeks at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, making it the first Billboard Alternative Songs number-one single to crack the U.S. top 5 since Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" in 2009. The song was widely praised by critics, and it has been licensed for use in a wide range of popular media since its release. "Pumped Up Kicks" received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

So here it is...the original by Foster The People:

Here are the lyrics of the song for anyone who's interested.

Robert's got a quick hand.
He'll look around the room,
he won't tell you his plan.
He's got a rolled cigarette,
hanging out his mouth
he's a cowboy kid.

Yeah he found a six-shooter gun.
In his dad's closet hidden in a box of fun things,
and I don't even know what.
But he's coming for you,
yeah he's coming for you.

[Chorus x2:]
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

Daddy works a long day.
He'll be coming home late,
yeah he's coming home late.
And he's bringing me a surprise.
'Cause dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice.

I've waited for a long time.
Yeah the sleight of my hand
is now a quick pull trigger,
I reason with my cigarette,
And say your hair's on fire,
you must have lost your wits, yeah.

[Chorus x2:]
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

[Whistling]

[Chorus x3:]
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

Also wanted to give you the first official remix of the song by The Knocks

Brilliant stuff this! How just one song can change a life! :)
Hope you liked the song and the dance video in the dubstep version of the song.

Right then...it is now time for me to say good night and take care! :)

The MJ Show #120 - Classic Albums - Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was Elton John's seventh studio album. It was released in 1973 and it has  been considered his best studio album to date. It has sold over 15 million copies.
The album has the very famous Marilyn Monroe tribute, "Candle in the Wind", as well as three successful singles: "Bennie and the Jets", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting".
The album was ranked #91 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time!

The album was a double album and featured 17 tracks in total. 18 if you consider that the first song is actually two songs together. Bernie Taupin, Elton John's long time song-writing collaborator wrote the lyrics in two and a half weeks, with Elton John composed most of the music in three days while staying at the Pink Flamingo Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.
Though Elton wanted to record the album in Jamaica, because of problems he faced there, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was recorded in two weeks at the Château d'Hérouville in France, where he had previously recorded Honky Château and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player.

The album went 7 times platinum in the US and platinum in UK. It also reached the #1 album on both the US and UK charts in 1973.

Today, I'm giving you a chance to listen to the ENTIRE album right here! Listening to albums has become such a lost joy. Most people just listen to the singles or the hit songs or the greatest hit cds...but you've really got to go back and listen to complete albums by fantastic artists like Elton John and so many others like him to realize, just WHY, they are such massive superstars right now and back in the day :)

The MJ Show #118 - John Mayer & Keith Urban - CMT Crossroads

Thinking of John Mayer's new album got me started on some of his older material and then I remembered his two appearances on CMT Crossroads!

CMT Crossroads is a television show broadcast on Country Music Television and Palladia that pairs country music artists with musicians from other music genres and I think it's one of the coolest concepts on television in America! :)
The concert that I'm featuring in this episode was the second time John Mayer appeared on CMT Crossroads. This gig, with Keith Urban happened on 18th June 2010.
One of my favourite live shows ever  was John's first appearance on CMT Crossroads, when he played with Brad Paisley, who is possibly my favourite contemporary country artist after George Strait.

Here are a few of the songs from John Mayer and Keith Urban's CMT Crossroads taping:
(I'll show you his songs with Brad Paisley in another episode soon! Maybe even tomorrow) :)

If Ever I Could Love

'Til Summer Comes Around

Sweet Thing

Perfectly Lonely

Gravity

Faith

How good was that eh? :)

The MJ Show #117 - I'm back and so is John Mayer

It's been a long long time since I put up a new episode but I'm glad to be back on The MJ Show and I can't think of anyone that I'd want to feature on the show more than John Mayer! :)

John Mayer is back with a new studio album, his 5th to be precise. He's releasing it on 22nd May...so that's just about a month away! The album is called Born And Raised and I'm really excited about it. He's the one artist over the last decade who has never failed to impress and excite me. Can't wait to see what he brings in this one.

He has produced this record with Don Was, who has previously worked on albums by Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King and the Rolling Stones.
David Crosby and Graham Nash contributed guest vocals on the title track and session keyboard man Chuck Leavell – best known for his work with Eric Clapton, the Allman Brothers Band and the Stones – is featured throughout the set.

Here are some officially released videos preceding the album launch.

Video for Shadow Days

Video for Video Games

And here's a complete album preview!

And finally...here's an exclusive interview with Don Was

Can't wait for this to come out.
I've got loads more action on the site for you soon!

Right then...it is now time for me to say...take care...and have a nice day! :)
