The MJ Show #69 (Tracy Chapman's Debut Album)

One of my favourite albums ever was Tracy Chapman's debut album. I've always maintained that she is one of the finest songwriters of this generation and this album is proof of her incredible talent.
I'm going to try to give you live versions of all the songs on the album but where I couldn't find a live version I've given you the original album version.
If you don't own this album...please go and pick it up today. Totally worth the money spent on it.

Tracy Chapman hit #1 on both the US & UK album charts.
The first single "Fast Car" was very popular, peaking at #5 in the US and #6 in the UK. The second single "Talkin' Bout a Revolution" was less successful reaching only #75, but received much airplay and also charted in the Adult Contemporary and Modern Rock charts amongst others. "Baby Can I Hold You", the third single, only reached #48 - however, the song was a #2 hit for Boyzone in 1997.
Tracy Chapman was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album and "Fast Car" gained Chapman an award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 31st Grammy Awards in early 1989.

Here's what it looks like.

1st Song - Tracy Chapman - Talkin' Bout a Revolution
What a great way to kick off an album! Brilliant song!

2nd Song - Tracy Chapman - Fast Car
Possibly one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I love the storytelling in this song. Brilliant songwriting!

3rd Song - Tracy Chapman - Across The Lines

4th Song - Tracy Chapman - Behind The Wall
So sparse...yet so incredibly moving.

5th Song - Tracy Chapman - Baby Can I Hold You
Beautiful ballad! I loved what Boyzone did with it too.

6th Song - Tracy Chapman - Mountains o' Things

7th Song - Tracy Chapman - She's Got Her Ticket

8th Song - Tracy Chapman - Why?
