The MJ Show #15 (A Rockin' Christmas)

Today, I give you the first of my Christmas specials!!
We'll kick things off with a Rocking Christmas and then see where we go from there! :)

One of the greatest Christmas songs with some of the greatest singers in the world was a song called "Do They Know It's Christmas?".
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" was written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984 to raise money for relief of 1984–1985 famine in Ethiopia. The original version was produced by Midge Ure and released by a collective called Band Aid on 29 November 1984.

Do you know who all song on this song?!
Here...have a look:
The original Band Aid ensemble consisted of (in sleeve order):
Adam Clayton (U2), Queen, Phil Collins (Genesis, solo), Bob Geldof (The Boomtown Rats), Steve Norman (Spandau Ballet), Chris Cross (Ultravox), John Taylor (Duran Duran), Paul Young, Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet), Glenn Gregory (Heaven 17), Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran), Simon Crowe (The Boomtown Rats), Marilyn, Keren Woodward (Bananarama), Martin Kemp (Spandau Ballet), Jody Watley (Shalamar), Bono (U2), Paul Weller (The Style Council), James "J.T." I want to use this song to kick things off for our Christmas special.
I think it's so important to think of others, less fortunate than us at a time like this.
Love and peace to you all. Here we go!
1st Song - Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas #TheMJshow

So who follows a mammoth song like this one?
Well, how about Jimi Hendrix!? :)
This is off a five song maxi-single that wasn't really intended as a Christmas record. It is the result of Jimi Hendrix and the Band of Gypsies fooling around as they rehearsed for concerts at Filmore East during the 1969 holiday season. Full fun and super rare stuff! :)

2nd Song - Jimi Hendrix - Merry Christmas And Happy New Year #TheMJshow

Christmas Time Again is a Christmas-themed album by one of my favourite Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd and is their eleventh studio album, released in 2000. From that album I have the title track for you as my 3rd song for the night!

3rd Song - Lynyrd Skynyrd - Christmas Time Again #TheMJshow

Paul McCartney put out this song in 1979 and this is one of his biggest solo hits!

4th Song - Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime #TheMJshow

If we talk about Paul's big Christmas hit, can we possibly leave John behind?
Here's a John Lennon Christmas hit!
"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" is a Christmas song by John Lennon, Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band. It was recorded at Record Plant Studios in New York City in late October 1971, with the help of producer Phil Spector.
Although the song is a protest song about the Vietnam War, it has become a Christmas standard and has appeared on several Christmas albums.

5th Song - John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) #TheMJshow

George Thorogood is best knownfor his hit "Bad To The Bone" but here's a Christmas song by him.
6th Song - George Thorogood and the Destroyers - Rock 'n' Roll Christmas #TheMJshow

Did you know...Iron Maiden was formed on Christmas Day 1975, by bassist Steve Harris!!!
Here's a Christmas single by the band for all you Maiden fans!

7th Song - Iron Maiden - Another Rock 'n' Roll Christmas #TheMJshow

I've noticed that while Christmas has some brilliant festive and joyful songs, it also has some of the most beautiful sad songs. I remember hearing this next song many years ago and it's always stayed with me as one of my favourite songs by the Eagles.
The song I have for you was originally released in 1960, by the American blues singer and pianist Charles Brown. The Eagles first covered it in 1978 and it was a fairly big hit for them.
8th Song - Eagles - Please Come Home for Christmas #TheMJshow

Coming up next is a Christmas song by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
9th Song - Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Christmas All Over Again #TheMJshow

And it can't really be Christmas without the next song can it. Singing it for you, I have Mr.Jon Bon Jovi!!!
10th Song - Jon Bon Jovi - Blue Christmas #TheMJshow

Bonus Song - Bob Dylan - Must Be Santa #TheMJshow
Christmas in the Heart is Bob Dylan's 34th studio album and first Christmas album, released on October 13, 2009! It's out in the market now! Go pick it up!!

It should be available at Rhythm House and Landmark! (My two favourite places for buying music!)

Bonus Song - Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town #TheMJshow

That's a wrap for tonight!
In the next few days before Christmas, I've got a Country Christmas, an R&B/Motown Christmas and an Oldies Christmas lined up for you!!!

Merry Christmas to you all. The fun has just begun!!

This is your "Musicman" Mihir and I'll see you again soon...
Take care...and...good night!
