The MJ Show #12 (Motown #1s!)

If there's one group of musicians...a lot of them actually that I love, it would  be the guys and gals who worked under the Motown umbrella.
Motown had some incredible artists.
(For anyone who's interested...here's a comprehensive list of all Motown artists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Motown_Records_artists )

Tonight I'm going to take you through the years and give you some of my favourite Motown hits over the years! And here's the power of these songs. Each of the songs I have for you here are #1 singles for these artists in the United States.

(There are a LOT more Motown songs that I really love but for tonight, I'm just giving you the songs that made it to #1 on the American charts.)

1961

Two great songs! Two #1s!!
Here's a medley of their first 2 #1 hits.

9th Song - Edwin Star - War #TheMJshow
War! Haa! Hoo! What is it good for! Absolutely nothing!!
Listen to me... :)

Bonus Track - Bruce Springsteen - War #TheMJshow
Why? Because it JUST could not be left out.

10th Song - Diana Ross - Ain't No Mountain High Enough #TheMJshow
I know that the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell version of this song is more popular with most people but Diana Ross's version went to #1.

Bonus Track - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell - Ain't No Mountain High Enough #TheMJshow
Cos I know you'd love to hear it. :)
Brilliant duet innit?!

11th Song - Jackson 5 - I'll Be There #TheMJshow
Man!!! Listen to this version of the song. It's astounding!!
Goose bumps city baby!! Oh yeah!! :) OHHHH man!!! :D
(Comments were being written as I'm seeing the video :) )

12th Song - Smokey Robinson and The Miracles - The Tears Of A Clown #TheMJshow

1972
13th Song - Michael Jackson - Ben #TheMJshow
One of my favourite songs by MJ. I LOVE his voice on this one.
This is why he was and will always be a superstar!

14th Song - The Temptations - Papa Was A Rolling Stone #TheMJshow

1973
15th Song - Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On #TheMJshow
The ULTIMATE make out song in my opinion. Put on this song, dim the lights and get the girl you love to dance with you. It'll be the start of something good :) I'm willing to bet on it! :)

16th Song - Stevie Wonder - Superstition #TheMJshow
A song that was even covered by Stevie Ray Vaughn! What a song.
Funky! :)

1976
17th Song - The Miracles - Love Machine #TheMJshow

1977
18th Song - Stevie Wonder - Sir Duke #TheMJshow

19th Song - Marvin Gaye - Got To Give It Up (Part 1) #TheMJshow

1978
20th Song - Commodores - Three Times A Lady #TheMJshow
Lionel Richie's band had some great hits. This is one of em.

1981
21st Song - Diana Ross and Lionel Richie - EndLess Love #TheMJshow
Without a doubt one of the most beautiful duets I've ever heard!

1982
22nd Song - Lionel Richie - Truly #TheMJshow

1983
23rd Song - Lionel Richie - All Night Long (All Night) #TheMJshow
A dance classic. If you don't start tapping your feet and moving a bit...there's something wrong with you :)

1984
24th Song - Lionel Richie - Hello #TheMJshow
A bit of a stalker song if you look at it in a certain way :) Heh :) Creepy teacher secretly loves blind student!!
Okay okay. Won't freak you guys out. I know you love this one a LOT.
There's a bit more to the video than you know. You can see the extended story here!
(They generally don't show the whole video on tv. At least I don't recall seeing this complete video.)

25th Song - Stevie Wonder - I Just Called To Say I Love You #TheMJshow
The quintessential Stevie Wonder song eh? You can NEVER get tired of this one. :)

1985
26th Song - Stevie Wonder - Part Time Lover #TheMJshow
Man!! This was one of the songs of my childhood! I loved this back then and it's still awesome today!

27th Song - Lionel Richie - Say You Say Me #TheMJshow
This was the first Lionel Richie song I heard and fell in love with. One of my dad's favourite songs too. Wow! Come to think of it, this was a song of one of the first casettes I ever got!
Was this special for you too?

1992
28th Song - Boyz II Men - End Of The Road #TheMJshow

1994
29th Song - Boyz II Men - I'll Make Love To You #TheMJshow

30th Song - Boyz II Men - On Bended Knee #TheMJshow

This is just the beginning though. There are loads more beautiful Motown tracks that I want to share with you.
We'll have a Motown Christmas special very soon.
